Olympian Jean Vuarnet, 83, passed away on January 2, 2017

Jean’s downhill victory at the 1960 Olympic Winter Games in Squaw Valley was significant for many reasons. A ski pioneer, he captured the gold medal on non-wooden skis and utilized a speedier low-tuck position, squatting down with his knees bent, both firsts in the alpine racing world. Jean is also known for lending his name to a line of internationally renown sunglasses and the involvement in the development of the Avoriaz ski resort in the French Alps.
